Building a greener environment

Local nurseries can secure £5,000 renovation from Bob the Builder

Published on January 11th 2008.

Building a greener environment

If anyone can fix problems, Bob the Builder can and is currently on a nationwide mission to educate youngsters about the importance of energy efficiency and the environment.

With the UK launch of Project: Renovate at Skittles Childcare, a children’s day nursery in Manchester, everyone’s favourite builder is calling on parents and OfSTED or Local Authority registered nurseries across the North West to enter this new competition for their chance to win one of 12 Eco-Makeovers, worth up £5,000 each. The expiry date for the competition is 31 January 2008.

There are 12 Renovation Awards which can be the renovation of indoor or outdoor space to create a greener environment. Work is carried out by Bob the Builder’s partners www.thinkinsulation.com and Travis Perkins and will provide young children with the opportunity to understand and nurture the environment.

Project: Renovate is about capturing children’s attention at a young age on the important issue of protecting our environment and teaching them about their impact on the world around them. It’s an opportunity for parents and children in Manchester to work together on a fun, fresh and socially responsible project. And not only will the winners be rewarded with an ecologically-friendly learning environment, each winning school will also receive a visit from Bob himself.

This week, all 18,000 of the OfSTED or Local Authority registered nurseries in the UK will receive a Resource Pack which contains entry guidelines and information for practitioners and children about the project. It includes activities linked to the early year’s foundation stage curriculum to help young children understand key concepts such as how to save water and electricity.
