Manchester Japanese restaurant, New Samsi, is bringing the art of sushi-making and origami to young amateur foodies through their new ‘lessons while you eat’ for all the family.
Sushi, or ‘sticky rice’, has long been associated with good health and long life. The Sushi-making classes encourage inventiveness, and enable you and your kids to learn about Japanese food, the art of rolling Sushi, its ingredients and health benefits and of course enjoying eating your creations afterwards.
Young diners can also try out origami at the Samsi restaurants, and make their very own paper cranes – a traditional custom in Japan.
Both eateries on Whitworth Street and in Spinningfields in the city will be offering the classes at weekends during June and July and then every day in the holidays through to September.

Having mastered sushi-making young diners can then choose a Bento box for lunch. This ultimate Japanese fast-food – which you can eat-in or take-away – comes in a shinkansen (bullet train) or a hakata (doll). The food is rice, chicken in a crumbly coating and lightly battered veg, called tempura.
Sushi cookery classes for kids, including crispy chicken or vegetarian lunch, cost £7.95 per child.
To book a kids sushi session at either restaurant please contact Samantha Gore at Samsi on 0161 279 0022. For more information on the leading Japanese restaurant group go to www.samsi.co.uk
