Mahamar Tonoe and Sean Boland, both age 16 from Middleton, had their 15 minutes of fame at Abbey College’s recent talent challenge – Abbey’s Got Talent.Mahamar displayed his black belt skills in taekwondo, while Sean performed his stand-up sketch at this unique talent challenge, in front of a panel of Talent Executives from the BBC who were there to provide advice on careers in the industry.
Christine Kennrick, a representative from the BBC, says: "Both acts had their individual appeal. Mahamar showed real composure, concentration and enjoyment of his talent and Sean will hopefully benefit from having the opportunity to do his routine and also from the feedback he was given – that is an important part of the process."
The event was held alongside Abbey’s first ever careers convention. Employers attending included respected institutions such as The Royal Air Force, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Chadwick, JD Williams and The Royal Bank of Scotland.
Iain Stewart of Abbey College says: “Students come to us from all over Greater Manchester and Cheshire for an exciting, stimulating learning environment in which they can raise their expectations and fulfill their potential – whether this is achieving the grades for a top medical school or pursuing a successful arts-based career. We also support extracurricular talents and hobbies.”
