Adult and family learning programmes at Tatton

Follow in the footsteps of your heroes in 2011. If you are a budding Titchmarsh, Monet, Attenborough or Robin Hood, Tatton Park’s adult and family learning programme has a course or workshop for you.

Ever popular is the opportunity to get up close and (not quite) personal with Tatton’s famous deer herd on a deer walk, or feed and trailer ride

From lectures, talks and tours to practical sessions in watercolour painting or the skill of the Longbow, there are more than 60 specialist adult and family learning activities taking place at Tatton in the coming year.

The rich diversity of the historic estate in rural Cheshire East provides a fantastic inspiration for and backdrop to these participatory events. Learn the art of pruning in Tatton’s Victorian kitchen gardens; explore the skill of poultry rearing in the working rare breed farm.

Lynn Podmore, Learning and Visitor Services Manager, said: “This year we have our most exciting programme yet. Drawing on the skill and knowledge of our dedicated team across the estate and the expertise of some external providers, we believe there is genuinely something for everyone this year.”

Many activities are centred upon the 2,000 acre parkland. Ever popular is the opportunity to get up close and (not quite) personal with Tatton’s famous deer herd on a deer walk, or feed and trailer ride.

A deer park since 1290, Tatton is renowned for its red and fallow deer herds. These fascinating animals played a starring role in BBC Northwest Tonight’s ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ programme throughout 2010.

New parkland activities this year are a ‘Pond Dipping and Bug Hunt for Adults’ and a ‘Bat Bonanza’ guided night walk.

Lynn said: “Our extensive programme provides many opportunities for people to ‘uncover their potential’. The stunning setting enhances the experience for the hundreds of participants who enjoy our adult and family learning programme each year. The workshops and activities also make fantastic unique gifts for friends and loved ones, so please ask us about purchasing for a friend”.
