FOLLOWING the riots in the city last month, Salford City Council has organised football sessions with Manchester United coaches to give young people something positive to do after school.
Coaches from the Premier League champions will put the young people, aged between 11-19, through their paces, offering advice to improve their ball skills.
The football sessions have been organised by the council’s youth service in partnership with Manchester United Football Foundation.
The football sessions are taking place every Friday from 6pm-9pm until 4 November outside the Pendleton Gateway.
For those who are not fans of football, hair and beauty classes will be available on a youth bus outside the Pendleton Gateway.
Youth workers will also be on hand to talk to teenagers about drug and alcohol misuse and the consequences of anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Margaret Morris, Salford City Council's lead member for children’s services said: “Free events like this are great for young people to get involved in and channel their energies into."
“Only a very small number of under 18s from Salford have been convicted for involvement in the riots. However our focus continues on providing all our young people with fun things to do. Salford has much to offer young people, and by taking part in these positive activities, they are showing that they are proud of their city."
