The X Factor circus is in town

The X Factor circus is coming to town, complete with acrobats, robots and comedians.

Cirque Bijou, a Bristol-based circus troupe act, appeared alongside pop star Katy Perry and X Factor semi-finalist Diana Vickers in the last series and now they’re heading to Bolton’s Victoria Square to wow shoppers.

The visit is part of Bolton’s ongoing bid to entice visitors to the town in the post-Christmas period. Cirque Bijou will be in Victoria Square on Saturday 22 January.

In the coming weeks, shoppers will be delighted to see the return of other popular acts such as Titan the Robot, a six-foot walking, talking robot, and the Black Eagles, a trio of Tanzanian acrobats, who put on a breathtaking show of acrobatics and dancing skills to African music.

There is also a host of new acts for 2011, including: Bang On, a percussion duo who create funky beats using a huge homemade drum kit; Musical Ruth, a madcap nun who drives around with a mobile piano; and Stickleback Plasticus, a doubleact who will have the audience in stitches with their first aid attempts.

Councillor Ismail Ibrahim, Bolton Council’s executive member for development and regeneration, said: “We have a great line-up of entertainment planned for the next few months.

“We want to do everything we can to support retailers in the challenging post-Christmas period and are hoping the free entertainment will help to boost town centre footfall and trade.

“Our previous events have been really well received and enjoyed by visitors to the town centre so we have decided to book some of the more popular ones again and try out some new acts. I hope everyone enjoys them once again.”
