Draw The Mr Men

Discover how to draw your favourite characters from the hit children's books

Published on September 6th 2011.

Draw The Mr Men

TO celebrate 40 years of the Mr Men books, Adam Hargreaves, the son of the creator, is letting you into a little secret.  You can now learn how to draw the quirky, loveable characters for yourself.

In 1971, a six-year-old Adam Hargreaves asked his father “What does a tickle look like?” Roger Hargreaves responded by drawing a round, orange figure with long, bendy arms and Mr Tickle, the first of the Mr Men characters, was created.

By the end of the year Mr Bump, Mr Nosey, Mr Sneeze, Mr Greedy and Mr. Happy had been added to the collection of books that would go on to be a huge success.

In 1981, the Little Miss books were added to the Mr Men series, and when Roger Hargreaves passed away in 1988, Adam took over the reins of the cult series. The latest book, Little Miss Princess, was released this year in time for the Royal Wedding. Today there are a total of 47 Mr Men and 34 Little Miss books with each book based on a new character, whose personality is reflected in their name.

To mark this special anniversary of the books, a new My Mr Tickle colouring book has been released along with a Mr Tickle gift set which includes two Mr Tickle books (the original and glitter versions) and a soft Mr Tickle toy.

There's also a How To Draw the Mr Men book and you can even have your own personalised Mr Men storybook made, featuring your name and character.

In the video below, Adam Hargreaves teaches fans of the books how to draw some of the most loved characters.
