Do you have that deal with your teenager? You know - £20 for every A grade, £10 for every B grade and £5 for every C grade? You’re not the only one.
British parents are, according to a new survey, spending £117m on rewarding good exam results.
The survey of 3000 parents by Equazen – a brand of Omega-3 fish oil supplements – reveals that the average GCSE student gets £110.43 worth of gifts or cash and A-level students get £158.52. Nationally this totals up to £117,347,760.
Over half of the parents polled admitted they incentivise their kids to excel in important school exams or competitions, yet three quarters also felt today’s kids get too much, too soon. Cars, driving lessons, holidays and laptops were among the other top incentives parents use to encourage their children to excel in their school exams.
Some of you may think that Equazen’s reasons for carrying out the survey, which also gave a hilarious quote about needing...wait for it...Omega 3 oils to boost brain power, are entirely cynical. Shame on you.
However, a spokesman for Equazen also said: ‘’It’s completely natural for parents to want their children to excel in school and every family is different in how they encourage this.
'’Parents can also help their kids get the most out of classroom learning by supporting exam revision and helping stressed out kids solve a tricky homework dilemma.”
