CHOOSING a name for your little bundle can be a task. Do you go for something alternative and 'out there' or do you play it safe with a nice, traditional name? What about a possible nickname? What if it's abbreviated or rhymed with something else, like Rhona the moaner - one remembered from school.
Well, apparently there's more to a name then we think.
A new study has listed boys with certain names, most likely to be favoured by mum and have her wrapped around their little fingers. These included Alexander, Max, Finlay and Oliver. Kids with these names are apparently more likely to run to mum when they hurt themselves, confide in her when they are upset, and typically run to her for the final say, the survey revealed.
Lisa Penney, spokesmum for www.Bounty.com, which polled 3,000, mums of children aged three to sixteen, said: “Boys can love their dads dearly, but it is natural to run to mum as they can be the ones who are a bit softer on their sons. The relationship with dad can be just as strong and special, but more playful rather than one of safety and comfort.”
Little boys called Charlie, Ethan and Lucas are also more likely to be mollycoddled by mum, and awarded lots of attention. The report showed these ‘mummys' boys’ share more kisses and cuddles with mum and are more likely to turn to her, knowing they’ll get a quick response.
But dads are not immune from this either. The study also identifies the most common name of ‘daddys' girls’ to include Lily, Hannah and Chloe - who are all marked as most likely to hang off dads every word.
Girls called Ava, Caitlin, Abbie and Amelie know they will be treated like a princess and Holly, Ella and Charlotte have a tendency to idolise dad but consider him more of a pushover than mum.
Lisa Penney said: “It is well known that dads can feel protective of their little girls. Dads can feel more comfortable about letting their little boys pick themselves up if they hurt themselves, and often allow them to experience the big wide world a bit earlier than their little girls.”
Interestingly, the survey results show that eight out of ten mums and seven out of ten dads don’t believe their children are any closer to either parent. And only seventeen per cent of parents admit to feeling closer to one of their children than another. But just over a third say their children will automatically go running to the other parent if they get a telling off.
